There are no Armenian citizens on board the Iranian Air Boeing 727, crashed in northwestern Iran, on January 9, Spokesman for Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan told NEWS.am, referring to Armenian Embassy in Iran.

As NEWS.am reported previously, on January 9, at least 70 people were killed and 33 injured when an Iranian Air Boeing 727 passenger aircraft crashed in bad weather in northwestern Iran. The health state of 10 passengers is esteemed as extremely grave. The plane was heading from Tehran to the city of Urumiyeh.

One of the two black boxes was recovered. The pilot had lost contact with the airport before the plane disappeared off the radar. Mehr agency reported.

Iran has suffered a string of crashes in recent years.

In July 2009 a Caspian Airlines Tupolev aircraft bound for Armenia caught fire in mid-air and crashed near the city of Qazvin, killing all 168 people on board.
