Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city, is one of the dustiest cities in the country, the RA Statistical Service reported, referring to the RA Ministry of Nature Protection.

The air monitoring conducted last November showed a 2.1 excess of average monthly dust concentration norm – a 1.2% increase as compared with last October.

In fact, Gyumri is dustier than Hrazdan, with its cement plant and dust concentration within the norms.

On the other hand, dust concentration norm is exceeded as much as 24 times near Ararat, where another cement plant is operating.

The monitoring showed almost all Armenian cities have air quality problems. Specifically, air monitoring in Yerevan showed a high content of nitric oxide. In Vanadzor, the monitoring showed sulfur dioxide. The monitoring in Alaverdy revealed a disastrous situation, a 6.3-fold excess of the maximum concentration limit.
