Turkey plans to spend about $4.5 bn (10 % more than in 2009) on purchase and development of weapons in 2011.

Turkey’s military budget reaches $11.3 bn which makes 5.4% of country’s budget and 1.4% of GDP, Salamnews reported referring to the Turkish press.

This year Turkey plans to purchase 100 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Lightening II aircrafts amounting at about $15 bn, 30 F-16 Block 50 fighters, 6 six modern U-291-type submarines worth $3 bn, utility and attack helicopters costing about $7 bn.

It is also planned to build a long-range missile defense system price of which may vary from $2 up to $4 billion.
