Three Turkish candidates participated in the parliamentary elections in Hamburg, Germany.

A leftist Mehmed Yildiz was opponent to the representative of the Armenian community of Hamburg, a member of the same party Toros Saryan.

During the inner-party discussions Saryan asked Yildiz about his position on the Armenian Genocide. Yildiz stressed in 1915 Turkey committed a crime against the Armenians and perpetrated a genocide, Turkish Sabah newspaper reports.

Yildiz was elected to represent the party due to this bold statement.
