Karabakh war veterans must show exemplary behavior, RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan stated at a meeting of law-enforcement agencies of the RA Ministry of Defense, press service of the RA Ministry of Defense informed NEWS.am.

Commenting on the incident in one of the military units in Tavush, Armenia, Minister Ohanyan said: “As a Karabakh war veteran, I highly respect all the war veterans. However, I think that being a Karabakh war veteran is obliging, and our society expects our officers, Karabakh war veterans, to behave appropriately.”

The Minister stated that no tolerance to any offence will be shown in future, for “what was achieved at the cost of our friends’ blood to be retained, and the army to be disciplined.”

Minister Ohanyan pointed out the necessity for crime prevention work in the Armenian Armed Forces, with focus on better education methods and professional improvement. Minister Ohanyan said that discipline will be the focus of the top-ranking military officials’ attention in the first half of 2010.

Chief of the RA Military Police, Colonel Aram Ter-Sahakyan, Chief of the Investigation Department, Major-General Armen Harutyunyan, RA Deputy Minister of Defense, Major-General Vladimir Gasparyan and RA Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan made reports at the meeting.

NEWS.am reminds readers that, on December 31, 2010, Commander of the regiment stationed in Ijevan, Armenia, Colonel Sergey Karapetyan beat some civilians. Later, 20-year-old Taron Yengibaryan died in hospital. A criminal charge was brought against Colonel Karapetyan.
