Unless authorities bring up real changes in electoral code, public confrontation and clashes will be inevitable after next elections, Hovsep Khurshudyan, spokesperson for the Heritage party, said at today’s press conference.

The ruling coalition is already amending the electoral code but parliamentary opposition, Heritage and ARFD, has not received an offer to participate in this work. This is the reason both parties presented their own bills.

“Having majority in the parliament, authorities can display political will and amend electoral code to hold free and fair elections in the future. It will increase public confidence about election results,” he said. In case authorities pursue the same policy in future, discontent with social and economic situation may become uncontrollable.

“Even the opposition cannot control the crowd. People will find new leaders from the streets. It is unclear how they will manage to control public dissatisfaction. It is the most dangerous scenario,” Khurshudyan concluded.
