Vice-Speaker of the RA Parliament Samvel Nikoyan held a meeting with Thomas Hammarberg, CE Commissioner for Human Rights, January 19. Nikoyan informed the European official of the activities of the ad hoc parliamentary commission set up to investigate the tragic events in Yerevan, on March 1, 2008. Nikoyan commended the commission’s transparency. He pointed out that the Opposition would not join the commission.

Responding to Mr. Hammarberg’s questions concerning any new facts that can be ascertained on the basis of the commission-presented materials, Nikoyan said that the commission was allowed to work longer to find out such facts, but, unfortunately, they were too few to serve as a basis for the committee to publish any definitive findings about the death of people.
