RA President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting January 21 with CE Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg.

“We think that our country has done tremendous work over the last 20 years. On the other hand, we are well aware we have to pass a long way yet,” the Armenian leader said, expressing his gratitude to Mr. Thomas Hammarberg for reforms implemented in Armenia.

The RA presidential press service informed NEWS.am that the European official stated that CE is assisting Armenia, while Armenia is contributing to the CE`s activities.

The CE`s valuable approach is a balanced approach. The sides learn from each other in such areas as democracy, human rights and rule of law, the European official said. He pointed out his wish to meet with the Armenian President before leaving Armenia to share his impressions with the Council of Europe.
