Last year Armenia imported a total of 4,100,000 eggs, with 4,000,000 of them imported last December, when the local market showed a deficit, reported the Statistical Service of Armenia.
However, the imports did not change the situation. It was not until after New Year holidays that the deficit shrank. In 2009, Armenia imported 265,000 eggs against 1,400,000 in 2008.
A total of 719,000,000 eggs were produced in Armenia in 2010 - a 14% increase as compared with 2009.
It is noteworthy that Armenia exported 2,700,000 eggs last year, until the 4th quarter of last year. So it cannot have caused prices to shoot up late last year.
