Armenia and Hungary may efficiently cooperate within the EU Eastern Partnership program especially during Hungary’s presidency in the Union in the first half of 2011, Armenian speaker and Hungarian ambassador said.

In the course of his meeting with Ambassador Gabor Shagi, Armenian Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan stressed importance of the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts to peacefully resolve the Karabakh conflict. He considered unacceptable shifting talks to another format as it can threaten the peace process.

The Armenian official expressed concern over creation of sub-committee on Karabakh within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). He expressed confidence the sub-committee’s activities will hinder work of the Minsk Group.

Ambassador Shagi said Hungary welcomes Armenia’s efforts to peacefully settle the conflict, adding Budapest considers Minsk Group the only efficient format for the conflict resolution.

The Hungarian Ambassador conveyed his Speaker’s invitation to visit the country.
