Forecasts saying political discontent may develop into social protest are groundless, Armenian sociologist says.

Talking to the journalists on Saturday director of Sociometr center Aharon Adibekyan said Armenia is ranked 24 according to American model measuring likelihood of riots in different countries. Russia is ranked 3, while Georgia is the forth in the list.

“Armenia is not a country where colour revolutions may take place. Social unrest may cause revolution only in case public perception of poverty becomes more sensory. Despite 46.2% of Armenia’s population lives below poverty level, public opinion polls show that mentioned people do not consider themselves poor. They in fact do not perceive themselves as those living below poverty level. This prevents from social unrest,” the expert said.
