If media outlets do not want to obey the orders received from Baghramyan 26 (Armenian President`s residence) they do not obey. As regards those obeying, they agreed to from very the beginning, Karine Harutyunyan, Director General of the Gala TV channel stated at the roundtable discussion "Mass media: working in straightened circumstances".

Armen Melikbekyan, co-founder of the epress.am website, said that websites can hardly replace TV channels now due to such problems as high prices and poor Internet access. "There can not be any independent mass media in a poor country. We have to pass a long way to replace TV. At present attempts are being made to establish control over websites similar to that over TV channels. However, it is not so easy." Melikbekyan said.

Gegham Baghdasaryan, Editor of the Analiticon monthly, voiced the opinion that, unlike the TV channels, which are under the authorities` full control, print media enjoy some freedom. "Newspapers are independent of readers, but they are supposed to. We have money, we publish newspapers, we do not have money, we do not publish newspapers. There can be no free press as long as mass media remain independent of readers. There can be no independent mass media in a poor country because mass media are a business," Baghdasaryan said. He pointed out that TV channels` have lost public confidence and their role is not so important now as before.
