After being streamlined, the Armenian nuclear-power plant (NPP) will operate until 2016, when the construction of a new NPP is to be completed. However, there are all signs Armenia will not be able to complete the construction by that time.

Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan stated Feb. 15 that the currently operating NPP will be put out of operation after a new one has been constructed, probably in 2017 or 2018.

Minister Movsisyan also reported that a large-scale conference on nuclear energy will be held in Yerevan this April. All the potential investors have been invited to take part in the conference. Minister Movsisyan hopes the investors-related information will be specified before the end of this year.

Under an Armenian-Russian agreement of August 20, 2010, Rosatom is to construct the nuclear island of the new NPP.
