Over last year Armenian-Chinese relations gained new momentum, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told the journalists in Yerevan today.

He also added that over last 19 years Armenian-Chinese diplomatic relations have been characterized by mutual support, cooperation and mutual benefit.

China and Armenia are trusted friends and partners, he said, stressing importance of visits of the Armenian President and Prime Minister to China in 2010.

Yang Jiechi also noted that during today’s talks the sides discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.

“Further strengthening of the Armenian-Chinese friendship and cooperation not only serves the common desire of both countries, but also fundamental interests of China and Armenia and our nations,” he stated.

The Chinese official also stressed importance of effective functioning of Shanxi-Nairit joint venture, noting it is a good example of bilateral practical cooperation. The Minister added the countries should continue trade and economic cooperation, collaboration in the field of infrastructure construction, agriculture and resource development.

Jiechi also noted that the Chinese side intends to promote cooperation in such fields as science, education, health, culture and tourism.

Speaking of the regional issues, the Chinese FM reiterated country’s official stance, saying they are hopeful these issues will be resolved through dialogue and consultations between the parties.

“We believe that achieving this goal not only serves the fundamental interests of the parties, but also contributes to peace, stability and development in the region,” he added.

Yang Jiechi has already met with Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and plans to hold a meeting with President Sargsyan.
