YEREVAN. – The already dissolved National Assembly (NA) of Armenia was to kick off its last four-day session on Tuesday. But it was not convened for lack of a quorum.

Solely 26 MPs were in attendance at the NA Sessions’ Hall, whereas 53 deputies need to be present to have quorum to kick off a session.

There were several matters on the session’s agenda. But the most noteworthy matter was with respect to whether the legislature would give its consent for launching criminal proceedings against former ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s NA Faction member Aram Harutyunyan, and for detaining him.

As reported earlier, Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan on Monday petitioned to the NA, and with a request to give its consent for launching criminal proceedings against Harutyunyan, and for remanding him in custody.

Aram Harutyunyan is accused of taking a $14mn bribe.
