YEREVAN. – A Russian soldier suspected of beating 57-year-old woman to death in Gyumri has to appear before the Armenian court, head of National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan told reporters on Saturday.

If the crime is committed on the territory of Armenia, the person has to be sentenced by the Armenian court, he added.

“A murderer has no nationality, no profession, a killer is a killed and he has to be convicted,” Vanetsyan said.

Julieta Ghazaryan (born in 1961) was brutally beaten in a Gyumri street, on December 3, and she was pronounced dead in hospital.

A criminal case has opened into this incident, and on charges of negligently causing death.

A serviceman of the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri has been detained as the suspect in this incident.
