Although the Armenian army is the region`s most efficient army, the army`s strength is not only its efficiency, but also education level and discipline, Richard Giragosian, Head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS), said at a roundtable on human rights protection in the army.

He stressed that the recent army incidents, murders and suicides, arouse serious concern. He pointed out the need for thorough investigations. Although relevant laws are of high importance, their practical application is important as well. The Armenian Ministry of Defense expressed its concern over each incident, but necessary steps must be taken to improve army discipline, the expert said.

Armenia is not a consumer country any more, but has international security guarantees. So Armenian society must be intolerant to any violations of law in the Armenian army, Giragosian said.
