The only aim of the recently intensified Nagorno-Karabakh peace process is to avert a war, Giro Manoyan, Head of the Hay Dat office, Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) told journalists Feb. 22.
Although a new war is unlikely, "unexpected events" may occur and lead to war. Azerbaijan`s warlike statements, as well as the more frequent violations of ceasefire, are evidence of such a probability. "It must be made clear for Azerbaijan that its warlike statements are unacceptable and it is time for it to stop childish games," Manoyan said. The mediators are doing their best to avert a war. "It is clear that the problem is not going to be resolved soon," he said.
Azerbaijan goes on claiming that Nagorno-Karabakh must exercise its right to self-determination only as part of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, in turn, must take a hard line and insist on Nagorno-Karabakh`s involvement in the negotiations, Manoyan said.
