At a Feb. 22 press conference, Chairman of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia Gagik Makaryan stated that sugar was to have risen in price last year. However, "the importers showed their good will," he said.
According to him, the invoice price of sugar reached 240 AMD per kilo. With customs clearance charges and other costs, the sugar price was to have been 340 AMD per kilo. However, it was sold at 305 AMD per kilo, Makaryan said.
He pointed out that a new rise in international prices will inevitable cause a rise in sugar price in Armenia.
Armenian News-NEWS.am reminds readers that, at its Feb. 21 sitting the RA State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition reported it conducts regular monitoring of the sugar market and is ready to apply sanctions against law breakers.
