Armenian community of Russia’s Saint Petersburg marked 23 anniversary of the Sumgait pogroms in Azerbaijan.

Memorial service was conducted in the church on Monday morning, foreign office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.  A film about Sumgait events was screened, while Armenian youth placed posters condemning the Sumgait massacres in the Nevsky Avenue.

As a result of three-day long pogroms in the Azerbaijani city of Sumgait dozens of Armenians were killed, many of them - burned alive after beatings and torture, hundreds were wounded. Many women, including under-age girls, were, raped. According to official information, 26 Armenians were killed another 100 were seriously injured.
