On the threshold of the next anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, April 24, Turkey will resort to manipulations. The fact is that official Ankara has not changed its attitude to the Armenian Genocide, the expert in Turkic studies Levon Hovsepyan told journalists March 2.
"True, the cream of Turkish intelligentsia speak of the need for admitting the Armenian Genocide. Turkish society, however, shows a stereotyped attitude to the matter, which is the result of various fears," the expert said.
As regards the Armenian-Turkish process, Hovsepyan pointed out that some steps can be expected after the parliamentary elections in Turkey. However, the process is unlikely to intensify.
Armenian News-NEWS.am reminds readers that on October 10, 2009, in Zurich, the Armenian and Turkish FMs signed protocols on diplomatic relations. The Armenian and Turkish Parliaments were to ratify the protocols. However, because of Turkey`s unconstructive approach, Armenian President Serzh Saregsyan signed a decree suspending the process.
