Under the new Armenian Prime Minister it was possible that there have been meetings between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as between foreign ministers, and this is a kind of progress, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn said.

“As to our support, I think we should leave it to the current format where the process is discussed not to create something new. But in general it is more about the confidence building measures,” Hahn said during a joint press point with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.

Hahn believes what the EU we can contribute from outside is to support the whole region to enable cooperation among countries in many areas.

“Certain things take time but on the other hand the conditions in the region are quite conducive to work on future improvement of regional situation. We should assist but only under the request of the involved ones, because they know how to handle this. But we should stand by and help when it is useful from your perspective,” he added.
