The European Union’s support to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be both political and geopolitical. This is what Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration Affairs of the National Assembly and Deputy of the ruling My Step Alliance Arman Yeghoyan told journalists on 6 March, commenting on Premier Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Brussels and the statements he had made there.

According to Yeghoyan, the EU is a serious and major role-player in the region, but the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be resolved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

At the same time, he stated that, taking this into consideration, it is safe to say that the EU has the opportunity to have an impact on regional security, even though the impact will be indirect.

When asked if Brussels is ready to support the Armenian PM’s initiative to return Nagorno-Karabakh to the table of negotiations as a third party to the conflict, Yeghoyan stated that this should interest those who want to see a real and final solution, not those who are focused on hearing different statements.

“It is impossible to picture the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without Nagorno-Karabakh’s participation, and I think all serious politicians and international role-players understand this,” the MP said.
