The A1+ website is among the winners of the Fritt Ord Press Prize-2011 to be awarded at the Norwegian Nobel Institute on June 15.
Pursuant to a decision by Fritt Ord (Oslo) and ZEIT (Hamburg) the freedom of speech prize is to be awarded to four journalists from Russia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Belarus, as well as the Chernovik weekly (Russia) and the A1+ website (Armenia).
The A1+ website is the first Armenian media outlet to receive the prize, which is awarded for promoting freedom of speech despite pressure and financial problems. The Norwegian Human Rights House in Oslo and Norwegian Hensinki Committee nominated the A1+ website. An 8-member independent jure – five representatives of Germany, with Turkey, Denmark and Norway having one representative each – made a decision.
The A1+ website will get €10,000.
The independent Armenian journalists Marianna Grigoryan and Edik Baghdasaryan are won the prize earlier.
