The US has achieved progress in convincing the European Union of the risks of using China's Huawei Technologies and will continue to insist on it, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in congressional testimony, Reuters reported.

Pompeo "hopes" that Europeans will follow US lead when using the equipment of Huawei. 

“I think we’ve made progress and I know that we are going to continue to push,” he said. “When you have telecommunications that are deeply connected to state-owned enterprises connected to China, we don’t see there is a technical mitigation risk that is possible.”

Pompeo said the United States will not share information with the countries which use the equipment Huawei Technologies Co Ltd for creation of networks 5G.

The US accuses Huawei of spying on the Chinese government and considers the company a threat to national security. Huawei denies all the allegations and filed a lawsuit against the US government.

Large telecom operators oppose the ban on Huawei, saying that such a move could postpone the creation of a 5G network for years.

Huawei, the world's largest maker of telecommunications equipment, competes with Sweden’s Ericsson and Finnish company Nokia.
