The Armenian Government’s initiative aimed to curb inflation, which is to be submitted to Parliament, is a short-term populist step running counter market rules, the economist Moves Arestakyan, a former member of the Heritage party, told Armenian News-NEWS.am. If the Government wants to curb inflation, it should make it a function of the Commission for Protection of Economic Competition.
“Moreover, the Commission must become an anti-monopoly commission, which will prevent unfair competition – from the customs border to end consumers,” Aristakesyan said. According to him, the government must toughen customs control, especially in the case of oligarchs.
