Azerbaijan hasn’t rejected the idea of repeating the events of April 2016. This is what analyst of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs Ruben Mehrabyan declared during an April 1 press conference.
According to him, the events that took place in 2016 were no surprise.
“This is a dynamic part of the so-called Lavrov Plan. The idea didn’t turn into a reality thanks to the extraordinarily heroic acts of Armenian soldiers. In the political sense, we must understand that Azerbaijan would never take that step without the silent consent of Russia,” Mehrabyan said, but admitted that Russia took active steps to end the military operations by inviting the heads of the general staffs of the armies of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Mehrabyan says the format of negotiations is currently the OSCE Minsk Group, yet sharply refuted the idea that the West, particularly the United States, is making attempts to exert pressure on the process.
According to him, Armenia has a slightly different position on the possible war, and evidence of this is the statement that Armenia’s defense minister made during his US visit. “Yes, Azerbaijan is going to prepare for war, and it is first and foremost going to do it for internal reasons,” Mehrabyan said.
