There are so many issues in the context of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that a one- or two-hour meeting is not ample time to make serious progress. This is what Deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Mikayel Zolyan told journalists on 1 April, talking about the Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting.

“The Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting is a part of the peace process. A one- or two-hour meeting is not enough to discuss all the issues. We shouldn’t view these meetings as a zero sum game, but we also shouldn’t expect tremendous progress since it will take years for us to record tremendous progress,” he stated.

The MP attached importance to the recent meeting and stressed the fact that “the dialogue was restarted at the highest level”.

As for Artsakh’s return to the negotiations, Zolyan reiterated Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia does not represent Artsakh.

In his turn, politician Arman Navasardyan noted it is not right to name winners or losers in diplomacy. He believes it will be hard to bring Artsakh back to the negotiating table and that this will require time. According to him, one of the mistakes of the Armenian party was acceptance of the Madrid Principles.

Politician Alexander Iskandaryan claimed that the Madrid Principles is the language with which the international community is ready to speak to settle the conflict.
