Russian border guards and Armenian police officers jointly suspended an attempt to smuggle narcotics from Iran to Armenia at the Agarak border checkpoint.

As reported the press service of the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation to Armenian News-NEWS.am, on 30 March, 19 packages of drugs containing strongly influential narcotics were detected during a personal search of a citizen of Armenia entering the territory of Armenia from Iran. The specified person and the detected substances were, as prescribed, delivered to the competent authorities of Armenia for expert examination and to clarify all the circumstances. In the first quarter of 2019, more than 10 attempts to smuggle narcotics and psychotropic drugs were suspended at this border checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian state border, and the majority of the attempts were made by citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In 2019, besides attempts of illegal import of narcotics of herbal origin, there have also been frequent cases of smuggling of synthetic narcotics, as well as drugs containing substances, the import of which is banned in Armenia.
