Armenian Ambassador to Iraq Hrachya Poladian held a number of meetings on April 4-6 during his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan, the republic’s MFA reported.

The ambassador held a meeting with the Chancellor of the Security Council of Iraqi Kurdistan Masrour Barzani.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the need for the development of historically established relations between the Armenian and Kurdish peoples. The two also exchanged views on deepening bilateral trade relations, and also agreed to continue their contacts. Poladian also thanked the government of Iraqi Kurdistan for providing free land to the Armenian community, as well as the government funding the construction of the Armenian church in Erbil.

The Armenian Ambassador also met with the Speaker of the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament Vala Farid, Vice-Speaker Hemin Hawrami. The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the Armenian and Kurdish parliamentarians.

A meeting was also held with Falah Mustafa, the Minister of External Relations of Iraqi Kurdistan. The sides discussed the possibility of opening the Armenian Consulate General in Erbil.

Mustafa, in particular, presented the approach of the Government of Iraqi Kurdistan regarding the settlement of outstanding issues through peaceful coexistence and dialogue.

Poladian discussed a number of issues of mutual interest with Interior Minister Karim Sinjari.
