YEREVAN. – By conducting a sponsorship policy, we will not save the cement production sector from destruction, but will just delay it—not for a long time.

National Assembly (NA) of Armenia’s majority My Step faction member Babken Tunyan, who is also Chairperson of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, expressed such a view at Friday’s debates at this committee, and with respect to the package of bills on making amendments to several relevant laws.

He noted that if the imports of cheaper Iranian cement will enable to ensure a construction boom in Armenia, this circumstance should be made use of.  

Tunyan proposed to fellow MPs to give a positive conclusion to the said package of draft laws.

The Armenian government has proposed to increase the price of cement to 22,000 drams [approx. US$45] per ton.
