A BBC news team was beaten by the forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the company reported on Thursday.

The journalists were detained on Monday when they were on their way to the city of Zawiya. Later they were taken a huge military barracks in Tripoli where they were blindfolded, handcuffed and beaten. The Libyan authorities apologized for an attack on BBC team.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Four Armenian citizens were evacuated from Libya on February 23. They left for Moscow by a Russian plane.
