Azerbaijan and Georgia succeeded in drawing Georgian into their anti-Armenian policy. Consequently, the protection of Azerbaijanis` rights in Georgia is a secondary problem, Shirak Torosyan, Chairman of the Javakhk compatriotic union, told journalists, March 10.
Not to "hurt" the Georgian leadership`s feelings, they do not support the people raising the problems as long as Georgia is involved in the anti-Armenian regional programs. "It is absurd, but the leader of the Azerbaijani Assembly of Georgia, who is raising Azerbaijanis` problems in that country, was detained on arriving in Baku. To draw Georgia into its anti-Armenian policy, Azerbaijan is turning a blind eye to the violations of Azerbaijanis` rights in Georgia. But it will not last too long," Torosyan said.
Sevak Artsruni, Chairman of the Yerkir Union, pointed out that, although Azerbaijanis` problems in Georgia are settled "domestically" and Azerbaijanis are not overtly persecuted there, Armenians and Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia have identical problems. However, for well-known reasons, the Armenian community is not cooperating with the Azerbaijani one in defending their rights.
