On March 11, a powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the northeast of Japan, triggering a 6-meter tsunami. The quake shook buildings in Tokyo, AP reports.

The authorities had earlier issued a tsunami warning. People are evacuated from some parts of Tokyo. No information on victims and casualties is available, ITAR-TASS reports.
