The OSCE Minsk Group’s initiative to conduct investigations into incidents on the line of contact between the Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces can only be welcomes, Vahram Atanesyan, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, NKR Parliament told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
He pointed out that impartial investigations are dependent on the OSCE MG’s interest in it, as well as on the conflicting parties’ readiness to contribute to the process. “No doubt, the OSCE MG Co-Chairs are concerned with impartial investigations into the incidents,” he said.
On the other hand, there are doubts about Azerbaijan’s readiness to contribute to the process, as official Baku has shown unconstructive approach throughout the negotiation process, Atanesyan said. Investigations into incidents on the line of contact under the OSCE MG’s auspices once more necessitate Nagorno-Karabakh’s involvement in the peace process.
The OSCE MG made an initiative to conduct investigations into incidents on the line of contact following the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meeting in Sochi. With this end in view the OSCE MG Co-Chairs are to arrive in the region next week. Official Yerevan has welcomed the initiative.
