The forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi captured the city of Brega which was seized by rebels a week ago and are close to Benghazi.

Al Jazeera reports pro-Gaddafi forces are moving eastward into territory held by the rebels.

Government forces were reported to force out rebels from Libya’s key oil port of Ras Lanuf earlier today.

The Arab League has convened an emergency summit on Libya to discuss possible no-fly zone over the country.

France has announced it will be the first state to recognize the rebel Libyan National Council as the country’s legitimate representative, adding it will send an ambassador to Benghazi and receive a Libyan envoy in Paris.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Gaddafi’s opponents seized many cities in the eastern part of the country. Clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces continue.

Four Armenian citizens were evacuated from Libya on February 23.
