The Armenian citizens in Japan were not affected by the massive earthquake, Spokesman for Armenian Foreign Office Tigran Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the Armenian Embassy in Japan is keeping in touch with 30 Armenian citizens in the country. Earlier, Balayan had said the Armenian citizens were far from the disaster zone.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, on March 11, the biggest earthquake (9 magnitude) in the recent years hit the northeast of Japan, triggering a 10-meter tsunami and followed by several powerful aftershocks. The epicenter is located 373 to north-east from Japan’s capital, Tokyo at the depth of 24 kilometers.  The death toll may reach 10.000.
