Prior to opening an airport in Stepanakert, Armenia and Azerbaijan need to resolve the issue of safety of flights, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza said.

“I uphold the position the U.S. leadership, which believes that the sides should come together and discuss these issues before the airport is opened. We think that the details can be worked out,” Bryza told reporters on Tuesday, Trend News reports.

Stepanakert’s airport will start its operation from May 9, 2011. Recently Azerbaijan has threatened to shoot aircrafts flying to Nagorno-Karabakh.
