Cypriots and Armenians have long-standing close ties, Mr Takis Hadjidemetriou, Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, stated at the roundtable “Establishing peace and peaceful co-existence after an armed conflict – Cyprus and Northern Ireland” in Yerevan. The roundtable has been jointly organized by the Caucasus Institute and International Alert.

An Armenian community is residing in Cyprus. Armenian monuments and monasteries dating back to the 11th century are located there, Mr Takis Hadjidemetriou said.

He pointed out Armenians` role in world history and stressed that he is proud of the Armenian community of Cyprus, which experienced hard times together with Cypriots.
