YEREVAN. - Armenia will host an international conference on seismic safety.

It was decided at the discussions related to increasing level of seismic safety held in Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations on Friday. Secretary of the Armenian National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan, Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan, representatives of different agencies and departments were present at the discussions.

Major international conference will be held in 2012 and will be occasioned to the anniversary of Spitak devastating earthquake. Another conference is scheduled for this year.

An earthquake struck the Armenian city of Spitak in 1988 killing 25,000 people, leaving 15,000 people disabled. About 250,000 people became homeless.
