Upon the recommendation of President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, the delegation of the High Council of the Judiciary of Italy today had a meeting with representatives of Armenia’s judiciary at the presidential residence, reports the news service of the President of Armenia.

Head of the delegation, Vice-President of the High Council of the Judiciary of Italy David Ermini attached importance to sharing Italy’s experience in the judiciary in Armenia since the two countries are parliamentary democracies, and in a democratic system, the court is one of the pillars of the State. According to him, the cooperation of the two countries in this sector can have a positive impact on the effectiveness of the actions being taken to improve the judiciary.

During the meeting under the title “The role of a judicial council in parliamentary democracy and the relations with other constitutional bodies”, the members of the delegation of the High Council of the Judiciary of Italy delivered speeches devoted to the operation of the judiciary in Italy and the role and significance of high councils of the judiciary in a democratic system. They attached special importance to the independence of courts and judges and the role that a high judicial council has played in this.

The speeches were followed by a question-and-answer session.
