Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan touched upon the "new generation" anti-corruption strategies during a panel discussion held as part of the 8th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Doha. He attached importance to the implementation of a comprehensive and effective strategy for the fight against corruption at the national level and the combination of efforts at the global and regional levels.
In his speech, Badasyan talked about the Anti-Corruption Strategy approved by the Government of Armenia in October of this year and stated that the "new generation" anti-corruption strategies are viewed as the people’s strategies. Badasyan attached importance to the financial assessment and the setting of target indicators, emphasizing that the Armenian government’s goal is to make Armenia drop from 35 to 55 in the Corruption Perceptions Index of Transparency International.
Touching upon anti-corruption institutional reforms, Minister Badasyan presented the functions of the already established Commission for the Prevention of Corruption in Armenia and attached importance to the role of the to-be-created Anti-Corruption Committee and Anti-Corruption Court, the development and implementation of anti-corruption education programs, etc.
