YEREVAN. – Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan will not put an end to street prostitution in the Armenian capital.

“Had anyone told me ten or fifteen years ago that representatives of sexual minorities would offer their services in Yerevan streets I would not have believed,” Karapetyan told journalists on Tuesday.

He said he is upset to see people engaged in “sex business.” As to whether the Yerevan Mayor is able to put an end to street prostitution, Karapetyan said that it is not mayor’s problem.

“Fortunately or not, it is not within my terms of reference. This phenomenon is a social problem, a problem for police, but by no means a problem of the city hall,” added Yerevan mayor.
