The memorandum on the admission of Russian specialists to the biological laboratory in the territory of Armenia is in a very high degree of readiness. This was announced at the final press conference on December 24 by Sergey Kopyrkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia.

According to the ambassador, all the essential provisions of the document have been agreed upon, and at this stage there remain some technical issues that require agreement on both sides.

It should be noted that in 2016, with the funding of the US Defense Department, three laboratories were opened in Armenia - in Yerevan, Gyumri and Ijevan. There were talks that these laboratories are dual-use facilities and can be used for military purposes to create and produce biological weapons.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed confidence that the Memorandum on the admission of Russian specialists to a bio-laboratory in Armenia would strengthen the Armenian-Russian cooperation in the field of biosafety.
