YEREVAN. - Making forecasts about exchange rates is a thankless job, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan told journalists on Wednesday.

The Central Bank of Armenia is able to prevent sharp exchange fluctuations. Armenia is going to face serious challenges, but the government is able to assess and meet them, the premier said. The government is also able to implement its programs and accomplish the goals set by the president.

It is not only the economic crisis, but also certain forces’ opposition to reforms, that impedes the government’s activities, the premier added. He promised the government will be consistent in controlling monopolies and oligopolies, as well as in market management.

Armenia has numerous problems, but the government admits and deals with them without waiting for the opposition’s criticism, which is a surprise for the latter, the premier said. Armenia is expecting a large tranche from the anti-crisis fund soon, Sargsyan added.
