YEREVAN. - On April 15, a solemn sitting on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Armenian police was held in Yerevan. Armenia marks Police Day on April 16. A parade and a wreath laying ceremony are scheduled for Saturday.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Secretary of the Armenian National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan, Minister of Emergency Situation Armen Yeritsyan, Chief of the National Security Service Gorik Hakobyan, and other top-ranking officials participated in the sitting and congratulated the policemen. 

For thousands of policemen their service is not mere work, but daily life-saving activities, the Premier Sargsyan said. The Armenian government attaches importance to improving policemen’s social conditions, he added.

Chief of Armenian Police Alik Sargsyan said that the police has, with credit, implemented reforms and gained experience. In the context of the recent arrests of high-ranking police officials, Alik Sargsyan said the system must not be afraid of “purifying itself.”
