YEREVAN. - Armenian police will soon meet European standards, Chief of Armenian Police, Lieutenant-General Alik Sargsyan told a press briefing on Friday, following a solemn sitting on the occasion of Police Day.

“We cannot wave a magic wand and reform the police,” he added.

Armenia will soon have “new police,” General Sargsyan said. Just in a couple of years, Armenian police will meet European standards, but retain its “national spirit.”

General Sargsyan assured the journalists that corruption control measures are underway in Armenia’s police system. According to him, public attitude to “persons in uniform” is gradually changing for the better.
