YEREVAN. - U.S. President Barack Obama will not say the word Genocide during his April 24 annual address to the Armenian community, Lilit Galstyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dahnaktsutyun (ARF-D) parliamentary group, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“He is not the first U.S. president that promised the Armenian community to recognize the Genocide only not to keep his promise later. Like all his predecessors, Obama does not practice what he preaches. Consequently, every year, on April 24, the Armenian community feels upset,” Galstyan said.

The U.S. makes regular use of the Armenian Genocide as a geopolitical trump against one side or another.

“The promises to recognize the Armenian Genocide should be viewed not only in the context of elections, but also in the context of general political developments,” Galstyan said.

During his 2008 election campaign Barack Obama promised the Armenian community to recognize the Armenian Genocide. A number of other U.S. presidential candidates made similar pledges.
