The member states of the Eurasian Economic Union are considering the opportunity for national governments to refuse the right to veto in regard to certain issues and the transfer of the right to make decisions based on those issues to the supranational level. This is what Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan informed, reports RIA Novosti.

According to him, this is a major issue for debate. “If a particular national government maintains the right to veto, this will allow the government to maintain its national sovereignty. However, if we want our Union to advance, it is clear that everyone will agree that there are certain functions that need to be transferred to supranational bodies,” he stated and stressed that if national governments refuse the right to veto in regard to those issues, this will entail increase of responsibility of the supranational body.
