The elections in Karabakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) must not be speculated in light of Armenia’s domestic politics. This is what human rights activist Ruben Melikyan declared during a discussion entitled “Karabakh on the Threshold of Changes: External and Internal Security” today. According to him, civil society in Armenia needs to find paths to implement an observation mission during the elections in Karabakh.

“It is important for the elections to be held within the scope of a proper observation mission since the observation mission, namely two organizations to be sent to Stepanakert, will, in essence, oversee the elections as a part of the government of Armenia,” he stated.

Karabakh will hold presidential and parliamentary elections on March 31, 2020.
